Mark Boneschanscher
Speaker
Know more
Mark Boneschanscher is the managing director of the Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES). He believes that both science and industry have a crucial role to play in the energy transition. He is therefore actively involved in setting up scientific and public-private collaborations in EIRES. His goal is to speed up the energy transition by industrializing innovative renewable energy systems.
Boneschanscher has a background in physical chemistry. He received his PhD in 2014 from Utrecht University on the topic of fundamental studies of atomic and nanocrystalline materials with honeycomb geometry, on which he published several high impact papers. After his PhD he worked as a program officer at the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM). He coordinated various research funding instruments and evaluation panels, acted as institute liaison for the energy research institute DIFFER, and set up a successful lobby for new funds for the general and technical sciences (sector plans). During the transition of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) he was involved in setting up the new Institute Organization (NWO-I) in which he became coordinator of the institute liaisons. Securing energy for everyone
This year’s Energy Now Congress is centered around the theme ‘Securing Energy For Everyone’. The Dutch energy sector faces challenges like grid overload and solar panel owners being unable to contribute to the grid. However, there’s optimism as technological solutions are on the horizon.
The Energy Now Congress 2024 aims to foster discussions and partnerships to establish a resilient energy network. It seeks to address grid congestion issues and pave the way for a sustainable energy landscape. Additionally, it aims to propel Eindhoven and Helmond towards becoming leading net-zero emitting cities in Europe.
To achieve this, collaboration and communication are essential. The focus is on developing reliable smart grids that incorporate storage solutions and diverse pathways for a consistent energy supply. Decarbonizing the energy supply is also crucial for a sustainable future. Through these efforts, Energy Now strives to make a lasting impact on society.
Who are we?
Energy Now is the biggest congress in the brainport region directly related to the current energy transition. Our goal is to inspire, interest, and connect students, professionals and companies to take action in the transition towards sustainable energy. This event creates a bright perspective on the energy transition by focusing on the opportunities it creates in the present rather than in the future. Promising innovations and developments in the field of energy are highlighted from the perspectives of research, academics, companies and entrepreneurs. The event strengthens the connection between students, business people and researchers to learn from each other.
What have we achieved?
Energy Now has organised six yearly congresses about the energy transition. We gathered hundreds of students, various companies playing a great role in the energy transition to learn from each other.
